Making a brand for Echo Park, L.A.

Overview

In summer of 2024, I visited L.A. for the very first time. I stumbled upon Echo Park and the sheer amount and types of birds there inspired me to create a brand for the park. I wanted to capture the charm of the park and the iconic amount of birds — white pekin ducks, Canadian geese (that Waterloo is way too familiar with), and magpie ducks.

Developing the Logo

Duck prints & silhouettes

After scouring Pinterest, I knew that I had to add some duck prints and silhouettes within my design.

Merch Mockups

Stickers & Totes

Imagining of what it would look like if this park opened a gift shop, I made a couple fun merch mockups. I don't know about you, but me personally I would immediately buy those stickers!

Brand Board

Ensuring visual consistency across all the whole park

Every visual element has a purpose, a place, and a role in shaping the overall experience. With the alternative logos, submarks, typography, colour palette, and supporting design elements broken down, this brand becomes adaptable across an entire space.

Just like any well built theme park we can use character marks, land-specific icons, themed typography, and environmental graphics to keep this brand consistent from merch to signage.

Submarks can become wayfinding icons, patterns can appear on walls or flooring, alternative logos can anchor different zones, and the overall palette can guide atmosphere and mood.
